An American Airlines flight from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) to Newark was diverted to Baltimore late Thursday night due to a disruptive passenger. Witnesses on board, including retired law enforcement officer Juan Mejia and Richard Olenick, described the incident occurring about two hours into the flight. The passenger, who appeared intoxicated, allegedly yelled at a passenger next to him, called a flight attendant a racial slur, and made homophobic remarks. Flight attendants attempted to calm the situation but were unable to control the man’s violent behavior. As a result, the crew restrained him and diverted the flight to Baltimore.

After law enforcement took the passenger off the plane, the flight resumed its journey to Newark. American Airlines issued a statement emphasizing their commitment to passenger safety and security, stating they do not tolerate violence. The FBI is investigating the incident, with the passenger currently in custody on state charges. Authorities have not yet identified the suspect. The FBI is working with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Maryland to determine if federal charges will be filed.
